ASIS&T Signs Publication Contract with Wiley-Blackwell

The Association for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T) is pleased to announce that it has signed a contract for the publication of the Journal of the Association for Information Science and Technology (JASIS&T) and the ASIS&T Digital Library with Wiley-Blackwell.

Wiley-Blackwell was selected from competing proposals for a number of reasons, but the selection Task Force was particularly impressed with Wiley-Blackwell's commitment to and detailed suggestions for developing and growing the journal, both in a print and online world. The proposal evidenced an in-depth knowledge of JASIS&T and ASIS&T as well as a willingness to consider new strategies.

The Task Force was chaired by Trudi Bellardo Hahn and included Donald Case, Nancy Roderer, Samantha Hastings, Cecilia Preston, Ray Larson, Vicki Gregory, Cecilia Preston, June Lester and Marjorie Hlava. Working closely with the Task Force was Scholarly Publishing consultant Morna Conway.

The new contract replaces and supersedes a 1977 contract, and journal publication will continue seamlessly. One of the first new activities under the contract will be a strategic planning retreat later in 2008 bringing together the thought leaders of Wiley-Blackwell and ASIS&T for a full day of looking at numbers and trends to see where directions should lead. Nancy Roderer, ASIS&T President, notes that "This is a highly significant time for the Journal. We have a new Editor, Blaise Cronin, and a publisher, both with new enthusiasm and energy, willing and able to bring their knowledge of journal publication and information science to bear on JASIST."

The new contract will bring a number of benefits to ASIS&T members, including full access to the ASIS&T Digital Library through the members-only section of the ASIS&T website, so that content can be accessed from any location, regardless of institutional access.
