James M. Cretsos


CRETSOS James Mimis, beloved husband of the late Barbara Ann (nee Deitz) Cretsos. Devoted father Maurice W. (Dawn) and Christopher J. Cretsos, loving grandfather of Kevin and Alexander Cretsos, died Friday, August 4th, 2006. Born Demetries Mimis Kretsos, beloved son of Valasis D. and Chryssa (Thomaidou) Kretsos, in Athens, Greece, October 29th, 1929; migrated to the U.S. 1946; received naturalized citizenship, 1955; served in the U.S. Army 1954-1956; graduated from American University, B.S. chemistry, 1960, post graduate studies, 1960-1962. Work as a research chemist for Melpar Inc., 1961-1967, led to lifelong career in science information; director of information systems laboratory, Litton Industries, 1967-1969; head of science information systems department, Merrell Dow Pharmaceuticals, 1969-1991. He was an active member of the Association of Scientific Information chairing the southwest chapter as well as serving as its president in 1979. Positive and supportive, he was mentor to many in his profession. Those who knew him were touched by his genuine concern for their welfare. Retiring in 1991 he remained mentally and physically active. Artistic and compassionate he loved the arts. He attended the symphony and opera on a regular basis. His interests included photography, reading, writing, dance, and tennis. Above all he was a loving husband and devoted family man. He will be missed by all. At his request a private funeral service for the immediate family was held Wednesday, August 9th, 2006 at Spring Grove Cemetery. A memorial service for relatives will be held Saturday, October 28th, 2006 at the Savanah CommunitY Center in Sylva, NC.
